JUSTICE IN OUR CHURCH AND WORLD
JUSTICE IN OUR CHURCH AND WORLD
Justice is one common word often used in our world to promote fairness, equality, order and fair play. We all have a part to play regarding justice and it is very essential to the contribution of peace and stability in our society and the world at large. As we mostly see on the media promoting justice, peace and reconciliation by agencies, charity organization is a clear indication of how important justice means to our world.
As Christians what does God requires from us through the bible concerning justice.
Amos 5:24 but let justice roll like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
Isaiah 1:17 learn to do good, seek justice, correct oppression, bring justice to the fatherless, and please the widows cause.
Luke 18:7-8 and will not God bring about justice for
his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them
off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice and quickly.
The book of Micah inspire us as people of God to do
justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God? What does it mean to do justly? As
God requires of us, it is our duty to act justly in a world full of injustice,
where the poor is oppressed, people take advantage of the vulnerability of
others, where people cannot speak truth to power and inequality, corruption,
crime, is the order of the day.
We are challenged with injustice everywhere and must
work for change and support people experiencing injustice. The church must
consider both our ways of doing justice and our ways of being just, and how
they can be consistent with each other. Our way of doing justice in the church
must reflect changes in the systems and structures which promote fairness,
equal opportunities and diversity. Seeking justice involves honesty, truth,
forgiveness and the willingness and readiness to reconcile.
The church must encourage and challenge those with power to fulfil their vocation. Christians must be a leading example for the world and when the church gets it right the society will get it right as well. Justice demands conscious, consistent and commitment from us to be advocate everywhere and restore hope into our world full of injustice.
As secretary-general Ban ki-moon put it: As we seek to build the world we want, let us intensify our efforts to achieve a more inclusive, equality and sustainable development path built on dialogue, transparency and social justice. As people of God and good citizens it is very important to advocate and administer justice in our society, church, school, government and agencies. It is our duty to ensure proper legislative initiatives that will promote justice in our society are implemented. Lets not forget that centuries ago slavery was backed by law and the fact that it was a law does not mean it was morally right and served justice to all people. It is costly to be silent and ignorant about justice and its relevance in our world we live in and can misplace and destroy innocent lives. We must be ready to embrace diversity which is a call on us inspired through scripture to promote justice.
