VOLUNTEERING AT THE MICAH FOODBANK

VOLUNTEERING AT THE MICAH FOODBANK   “I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me”. This is Jesus’ powerful words in the Gospel of Matthew reminding us that it is highly important of us as followers of Christ to act in kindness towards one another.   James 2:15-17 (ASV) If a brother or a sister be naked and in lack of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit? Romans 12:20 ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. As believers in Christ Jesus, we are not exempted from the call to feed the hungry, God calls us to meet the needs of even those we might call ‘enemies’ Volunteering at the Micah foodbank has been one of my best highlights here in Liverpool. The very fi...

JUSTICE IN OUR CHURCH AND WORLD

JUSTICE IN OUR CHURCH AND WORLD Justice is one common word often used in our world to promote fairness, equality, order and fair play. We all have a part to play regarding justice and it is very essential to the contribution of peace and stability in our society and the world at large. As we mostly see on the media promoting justice, peace and reconciliation by agencies, charity organization is a clear indication of how important justice means to our world. As Christians what does God requires from us through the bible concerning justice. Amos 5:24 but let justice roll like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Isaiah 1:17 learn to do good, seek justice, correct oppression, bring justice to the fatherless, and please the widows cause. Luke 18:7-8 and will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice and quickly. The book of Micah inspire us as p...

The Season of Lent and its Significance

Lent is meant to be a season of sorrow and grief in a time of repentance which leads to the glorious celebration of easter. In this period, we prepare our mind and heart for commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. It is a time of reflection and asking God for forgiveness as Christians prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter. Lent lasts for a period of 40 days. Lent actually starts on the day of Ash Wednesday until its conclusion on Easter. Ash Wednesday as a special church service where we receive ash on our foreheads which reminds us, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”. The Season of Advent

The season of Advent starts four Sundays before Christmas. Advent is an important season in the church calendar, much like Lent, Easter, Epiphany, and Pentecost. This year Advent commenced on Sunday November 27 th and ends on Christmas Eve December 24 th . Advent comes from the Latin word “adventus,” which means “arrival. The Advent S eason is all about reflecting on how we can prepare our hearts and homes for Christ’s birth in the world as it is today. While Advent is certainly a time of celebration and anticipation of Christ’s birth, it is more than that. In this period of Advent, the aspect of Christmas can be fully recognized and appreciated, and in the light of Christmas that the Christian life is well acknowledged . It is a season of repentance, been remorseful and the willingness to change and walk in the ways of Christ as a believer. As we await the birth of Christ we must prepare our heart, mind, body to journey with him in holiness and righteousness and to live a Chr...

Ghanaian Hospitality Culture

I am currently in the UK. Liverpool, to be precise. I am enjoying the hospitality here which I find very beautiful. I do not lose sight of this wonderful opportunity Tsedaqah and its trustees has given me to be here in Liverpool. Their wonderful efforts are really appreciated by me and my family. One thing I have realized here in the UK, which is common amongst the people, is that they welcome you with tea or coffee - whether you visit the office or the home. The people of Liverpool are very welcoming, friendly, and kind which is making my stay here very exciting. I am looking forward to more interesting and beautiful moments here in Liverpool. Hospitality is a fine gesture which the Holy Bible approves of and encourages to be practised among ourselves. It even confers blessing on the host. Hospitality must play an essential role in the life of every Christian. Also, being hospitable is both an action and affection, in both receiving and loving the stranger.  The bible gives...
